U.S. Government files (1966-1984) of the Lutheran Council in the USA (LCUSA) General Secretaries contain correspondence, memoranda, congressional legislation, resolutions, statements, publications, and newsletters regarding the LCUSA lobbying efforts, involvement, and cooperation in government activities. Topics of discussion include meeting arrangements with government officials; General Secretary visits to Air Force Base chaplaincies; the establishment of a Peace Act Advisory Council in Congress; voluntary social work overseas; and religious discrimination in employment practices. A large portion of the records concern the introduction and revision of immigration legislation as well as the activities of the LCUSA's Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service.
